HOLIDAY HAIR!
Chignon
- Use the Instyler to first smooth down any unwanted frizz on top or around the face.
- With the Instyler curl the hair to add texture to the hair.
- Once the entire head is curled start pushing the curls up towards your nape and using Bobby pins just start pinning them into place.
(little tip... Try to criss cross the pins to help hold the updo together)
Bouncy waves
- Begin by sectioning the hair out of the way with your first section in the nape.
- Since the barrel is round you are able to wrap a section around the base to create a full and defined curl. Just remember: WRAP, CLOSE, HOLD, OPEN, DROP!
- When you drop the curl allow for them to cool before you run your fingers through them! But once they are cool just flip your hair around, run your fingers through it, have FUN!
Sleek and Smooth
- Begin by sectioning the hair so you can move through the hair faster.
- The key note when smoothing the hair is take the section slow and move on to the next! If you take it too fast then you have to keep doing the same section which is just a waste of time.
- As you get close to the top sections just remember to direct the sections away from the face to keep the face open.
NEW TIPS
1. Often times hair stylists forget to mention to their clients, that a DIET including folic acid and calcium are great ways to help with strengthening hair and hair production. Simply eat more fruit, beans, and green leafy vegetables.
2. One of my favorite summer time/anytime tips is don't wash your hair everyday, the natural oils from your scalp help to naturally condition the hair. If you feel like you are a little limp or feeling a little oily, just put some baby powder or corn starch on your hands and apply to the roots this will absorb the oil and give your hair some body and texture without getting rid of that beachy look!
3. If your hair is feeling like there is a build up on it, a quick way to get rid of the build up is to do a little rinse with a cup of ACV(apple cider vinegar) after you have shampooed your hair. Your hair will feel clean and fresh, however you may want to put a little conditioner thru to minimize the smell of the ACV.
4. An obvious beauty tip that it is never emphasized enough, especially for the summer, is to put SPF on your partline. And if you pull your hair back in a ponytail to run outside, make sure you have SPF on your ears. If you want to save your hair, put on a baseball cap. I have seen many clients that have a bit of a tie dye look on their hair, because the sun will fade your color. You will often have a band of dark where the ponytail tie is.
5. Styling in the summer can be difficult for many because of high temperatures and humidity. Quick styling is key, the InStyler can help you smooth out or put waves into the hair. Both are great for texture for a half up half down do. Pull the sides back into a simple pony and cover with a great accessory, this keeps the hair off of your face and it looks like you spent a long time getting those waves perfect.
6. When you are going to the store, pick up an extra avocado, smash it up in a bowl with a teaspoon of olive oil and apply to freshly shampooed hair. Wrap with some plastic wrap and wait for 30 minutes. Then rinse completely, followed by a light conditioning. This will help if you fight off dry hair.
HOLIDAY HAIR STYLES 2008
Old Hollywood Glamour
Old hollywood glamour is a sure fire way to get attention at any
holiday
Gathering this season. With the Instyler this look can be
created in
minutes.
-
First, take a 1/2 inch section of hair and wrap it around
the barrel of the Instyler.
-
Close the attachment and allow the rotating barrel to
create
magic.
-
After releasing the curl, keep it rolled up and secure it
with a pin, like a pin curl.
-
Do this to your entire head, and spray with a firm holding
hair spray.
-
After the curls are set and cooled, release the pins and brush
out the curls with a boar bristle brush.
-
This will break up the
curl pattern and take on a soft wave.
-
Finish with a shine spray
and you'll sparkle just like the Christmas tinsel.
When in doubt accessorize
One of my favorite new hair trends this holiday season is creating
Accessories like headbands out of your own hair! A little
twisting and
pinning can really update traditional curls and will really up
your chances for a kiss under the mistletoe this holiday season.
-
Take
1/2 inch sections of hair and wrap it around the rotating barrel
of the Instyler. Let the hair sit for 10-15 seconds and release
from the Instyler.
-
Set the hair in pin curls so the hair cools.
-
Release the curls.
-
Run through gently with your fingers.
-
Next take hair that frames
your face and wrap tightly so it resembles a rope.
-
Continue to do this until the two sides meet in the back
of your
-
Attach the two strands with a small rubber band.
-
Gently pull on
the hair around the crown to create more volume and a more distinct
band made from the hair.
-
Finish with a light hair spray.
-
This look will create a very romantic
vibe for a holiday event!
Knot it
This next style will look like you paid big bucks in a
posh salon. But with the help of the Instyler you can look like
a million bucks, but really spend all your money on Christmas present
for your loved ones! Who
could ask for more!
-
Divide the hair into three sections horizontally
along the head and hold with duck clips.
-
Take the first section
at the nape of your neck and tie the hair in a double knot.
-
Secure
with bobby pins.
-
Repeat to the second and third section of your
hair.
-
Once the hair is securely fastened with bobby pins you should
have dangling pieces coming out from the knots.
-
Take these sections
of hair and wrap around the Instyler.
-
Close the device and allow
the rotating barrel to create a beautiful curl formation in the
hair.
-
Release and let fall around the knots which create a very
elegant updo.
-
Finish with a firm hold hair spray and you will
be transformed!
-
Your hair with look fantastic; no matter how horrifying
your holiday sweater is!
The new twist
The classic fresh twist is always a fashion home
run at any formal event
Such as a Christmas party. But this season, surprise every
body with a
modern day twist. With the help of the Instyler it can be
done in a snap.
-
To start the twist, gather the hair at the nape
of the neck and begin
twisting.
-
Bring the hair framing the face back and begin working
into the twist.
-
Secure with booby pins, but remember to hide them
inside the twist.
-
Once the twist is done you should have a lot of
loose hair at the top of your head.
-
You want to maximize the volume
and create lift in this area to finish off
the look.
-
Take 1/2 inch section of the hair and place in the Instlyer
at the root of your hair, as close to the scalp as possible,
over-direct the Instyler as
-
You slide it along the hair shaft.
-
This is creating volume and
magnificent shine to the style.
-
Leave the tips of your hair inside
the barrel of the Instyler for an extra
15-20 seconds to really seal in a curl at the ends.
-
You can also
flip out the ends of the hair with the Instyler by placing the
barrel on the top of the section and rotating the opposite direction.
-
Rotating
the direction of the curls at the end of the hair in different
ways will create a cool pattern and great dimension in your hair.
-
Tease
the hair at the roots with the 3 in one styling comb to create
a
cushion in the hair that will last all night long, well past
the countdown!
